Sacramento, Calif. – As part of the 7th annual Green Sports Alliance Summit, the Sacramento Kings Foundation, Climate & Sports Student Summits, and the Green Sports Alliance have partnered to host a two-day youth summit at Golden 1 Center. Nearly 200 young people from the Sacramento region and beyond will come together to strengthen their knowledge about the environment while building a voice and leadership skills to take on the roles of student sustainability agents of change in schools and communities.
These students will join the nearly 700 representatives from the globe’s sports industry at Golden 1 Center for an examination of best practices from companies, teams, and individuals from around the world, and at Sacramento’s own Golden 1 Center – the most sustainable sports arena in the world.
“It is an honor to host the sports community for a discussion about how, together, we can use our platform, create an example of environmental leadership, and make the world a better place,” said Kings Foundation Executive Director Scott Moak. “Through the Student Summit, we hope to empower the next generation of leaders by providing them with the insight and information to educate their communities and peers.”
The Climate & Sports Summit gives youth the opportunity to develop and implement action plans incorporating two nationally recognized sustainable programs to reduce energy and waste in schools as well as directly learning from leaders in professional sports on how they model sustainability through their facilities and fan engagement, offering ideas and insight on how to bring environmental awareness back to sporting events at their schools.

By partnering with the Alliance, CSSS expands the reach of its educational efforts into the sports world, exposing students and fans to the latest sports greening initiatives. “Educating our next generation through sports is a true game changer for our planet,” said Scott Jenkins, Green Sports Alliance Board Chair and General Manager of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Calum Worthy – Calum is an actor, writer, and producer, known for his role as Dez on the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally is a trained Climate Reality Leader. Calum will share his thoughts on our call to action and making a difference.
Former NBA Kings Player Doug Christie – Doug is an American retired professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the National Basketball Association. Standing at 6 ft 6 in, he played the shooting guard position.
Ruby Rorty – Ruby is a sixteen year-old high school sophomore at Pacific Collegiate School in Santa Cruz, CA and the founder of the Santa Cruz Environmental Alliance, a youth-led conservation group that organizes beach clean-ups for young adults in Santa Cruz County. She is passionate about environmental education, especially in relation to plastic pollution, overfishing, and ocean acidification. Click here for the full program curriculum for both event days.
