Tonight, Golden 1 Center unveiled the first full-service music recording studio in a professional sports arena when the Sacramento Kings hosted local youth from non-profits Sol Collective and Men’s Leadership Academy as well as Warner Bros. Records artist Saweetie.
“Not only have we redefined the fan experience at Golden 1 Center, but we are also reimagining our world class performance venue’s relationship with the community,” said Sacramento Kings Chief Technology Officer Ryan Montoya. “Our state-of-the-art recording studio gives athletes and musicians the opportunity to engage in every step of the creative process under one roof, and will also be a premier destination for the community to showcase creativity and learn new skills.”
“Golden 1 Center’s new recording studio gives top talent even more reason to visit Sacramento,” said rapper and songwriter Saweetie, who graduated from Monterey Trails High School in Elk Grove. “When I started making music in Sacramento, there was no place like this where athletes, fans and local talent could collaborate and let their creativity run wild.”
The full-service recording studio will be housed within the esports training facility and content studio adding an entirely new experience to the most technologically advanced and sustainable arena in the world. The 1,000-foot space will be available to touring artists for meet-and-greets and community events, Kings players with an interest in music, the Kings in-house DJ team and local musicians looking to gain experience and exposure. The studio features state-of-the-art recording and mixing equipment tied into Golden 1 Center’s unprecedented connectivity featuring two redundant 100 gig circuits. Hardware and programming equipment includes Pro Tools audio software, Ableton Push 2 with Live 10 software,
Slate Media Technology RAVEN MTi2 Multi-Touch production console and Neumann microphones.
Through the Sacramento Kings Foundation, the entire studio will also serve as an asset for the region’s nonprofits. The team will lend the room as an educational incentive and unique engagement tool to connect with students including a future event with Mix Master Mike.The facility also serves as an amenity for touring acts visiting Golden 1 Center, who will be able to use the space as the ultimate backstage entertainment lounge.
Twenty youth from Sol Collective and Men’s Leadership Academy visited the studio with the Kings in-house DJ team, DJ Lady Kate and DJ Eddy Z, to learn about producing, sound engineering, sound mixing, songwriting and performing. The youth were surprised following Saweetie’s half-time show performance with a meet-and-greet.
“Music has the power to bring people together and it is an incredible honor to have our youth be among the first to visit the new cutting-edge studio at Golden 1 Center,” said Sol Collective Founder and Executive Director Estella Sanchez. “We look forward to having a new space for musicians to create and collaborate in the city.”
Golden 1 Center has created a once-in-a-generation spark in Downtown Sacramento through events, entertainment, culture and more. Since opening, the venue has hosted over 100 concerts from Grammy nominated and award-winning artists – including Paul McCartney, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Jay Z and Metallica. In the coming months, Golden 1 Center will host world-class acts including Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood and KISS. According to Pollstar, the concert industry’s leading trade publication covering worldwide touring, events and venues, Golden 1 Center hosted half of the world’s biggest tours in its first year after opening in October 2016. In the summer of 2018, Pollstar ranked Golden 1 Center 13th in the US and 40th in the world in ticket sales.
